Fiery Hindus protesting cow slaughter on Eid decry, defy police in Itahar, Dinajpur

Administration makes a shameful retreat

Areas where Islamists’ presence, let alone preponderance, was hardly visible in the earlier decades in Bengal are becoming easy preys to their burgeoning influences these days and village: Rajogram, P.S. Itahar, District: Dinajpur (North) happens to be one of those. But the fiery Hindu protest this year on Bakri Id/Eid ul-Adha has taken Islamists there by storm.

The village has been dominated by Hindus for decades and hence, it could steer clear of the blasphemy of cow slaughtering. However, the situation turned to the contrary this year owing to the insistence of a handful of Islamists (inhabiting the village) to slaughter cow (on October 27, 2012 on account of Bakri Id/Eid ul-Adha) within the village infuriating Hindus all in all.

When on earth Hindus protested against this ghastly decision, Islamists (supported by Islamists of other neighboring villages) started to warn Hindus leading to a squabble between the two warring groups.

To find out a solution, local police opted for a meeting that 5 members of each community were destined to attend. But Hindus in the meeting witnessed a heavy and vociferous gathering of 300 Islamists instead of set 5 who left no stone unturned to submerge Hindu viewpoints. And they emerged victorious to have the permission to slaughter cows but outside the village.

Later, it was learnt that Islamists got the desired permission at the behest of Kamal Acharya (local MLA of Trinamool Congress).

Hindu women were found to protest this dastardly act vehemently and how they can become CHANDI (during hour of need) manifested whenever Islamists strived to take beef into the village.

The intensity of Hindu protest was such that police personnel of local P.S. Itahar failed completely to rein in the situation. It got worse when DM of District: Dinajpur (North) arrived later on and tried to subdue Hindus. During the red-hot altercation, Hindus attacked police personnel including Officer-in-Charge of P.S. Itahar and even the District Magistrate. Witnessing the vehemence of Hindu protest, police and administration had no option except to retreat.

Tension prevails the village and opposition against Kamal Acharya among Hindus is on the rise.
